As we age, our skin; the epidermal layer changes less than the dermis where the number of cells and their reproductive activity slows down. Consecutively, the levels of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and
glycosaminoglycan’s decreases. Collagen accounts for approximately 70% of our skin’s dry weight and plays an important role in maintaining the skin’s structure. Over time as we age our skin loses
firmness, elasticity, glow, and tone and becomes saggy, thinner, increased wrinkled, dull and dehydrated skin. Hair over-time our hair may also become less radiance, less dense, thinner, weaker as well as experience more hair loss, slower growth, follicle shrinkage, more shedding, dryness, breakage and balding; androgenetic alopecia (male or female patterned hair loss).

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and how it works:
PRP is concentrated blood plasma (composition of blood) that contains approximately five times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood. Apart from red blood cells and white blood cells, our blood also contains cells known as platelets. Human blood mainly contains red blood cells (93%), white blood cells (1%) and platelets (6%) and all of them are suspended in plasma. However, during platelet rich plasma skin therapy, the red blood cell count is reduced to 5%, that of platelets is raised to 94% while the white blood cells count remain constant.

The function of platelets is to promote healing and aid in the clotting of blood at the site of a wound. Platelets contain growth factors that promote regeneration of the cells in the body, including the area of damaged hair follicles. It is understood that PRP increases blood flow and reduces inflammation around the follicle. At SMH we offer CIT with PRP for skin and hair regeneration, rejuvenation and anti-ageing because of our knowledge of PRPs’ efficacy and benefits. This treatment helps to promote renewed and restored cells which in turn leads to firmer, more toned, thicker, smoother, radiant, plum and hydrated skin, as well as hair follicle restoration, healthier hair growth and maintenance. CIT is also known as micro-needling. This a cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny sterile needles. This procedure when combined with PRP can be effectively used to treat various skin and hair issues. The PRP is obtained in a form of dermatologic autologous blood therapy (the PRP is derived from the patients own blood). The PRP contains growth factors that increases collagen production. The PRP is then applied topically to the entire treatment area during and after collagen CIT skin treatments or the PRP can be injected intradermally before the CIT to boost treatment effectiveness.

SMHs’ CIT process involves the use of a pen affixed with mini needles to create tiny wounds. These wounds are miniscule and only skin- deep, but the body responds with alarm which initiates the wound healing response by signalling and requesting the release of healing/ growth factors to repair skin or hair follicle by boosting their repair mode, strength, restoration and health. During the wound healing process new collagen is produced and old misaligned collagen is broken down and removed by the body. Over few weeks, new collagen and elastin matrix are created, and this continues for up to several months. These new matrixes start to thicken the skin and improve skin texture giving the skin a fresher more youthful glow. With reference to hair follicles, hair growth is promoted via the introduction of PRP to the area damaged hair follicles or normal hair follicles.

- PRP Hair Restoration
SMH PRP hair rejuvenation treatment involves (a dermatologic autologous blood therapy to obtain PRP) the injection of a patient’s own (prp) plasma and growth factors into the scalp to improve hair density and the accelerate hair growth which in turn will improve the hair thickness and condition.

This treatment takes as approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Patients will start with a course of three treatments: 4 weeks apart. Most patients tend to start to see early-stage improvement from approximately 3-6 months and the full effect from approximately 6-12 months. However, it is important to know that top up treatments are required for maintenance of thicker fuller hair.

Patients can immediately return to their normal daily routine; however, strenuous activity and alcohol consumption should be avoided for 24 hours post procedure. Patients may experience a little shedding of hair within the first 1-2 months; this is normal and means the treatment is effective.
